    LOSS
The Mustangs started the season looking pretty good indeed!   Our batters swung at good pitches with 7 of our 9 girls getting on base! Only 3 of our strikeouts were called, meaning our girls were swinging and not watching.   We had solid doubles hit by Katie and Calle, and I saw fast baserunning from all.  The girls did a good job stopping the ball, including a nice double play - but we let a couple of balls drop that would have been outs - and that gave the Gazelles the edge.

I was happy with the pitching - especially since we hadn't had much pitching time during practices.  Lastly, I was looking forward to a large share of snacks, but the girls cheered their team loud and proud so they got to keep them for themselves...  GO MUSTANGS!

    WIN

Mustangs - the game tonite certainly lived up to expectations and was a great one. A tight pitching dual with good plays in the field - and - hits when we really, really needed them!!

Kudo's for Emily on her first pitching outing as a Mustang - pitching hard and accurate. Maddie getting a very clutch hit with 2 strikes on her driving in 2 runs and Kara hitting a solid shot to put the Mustangs in the lead. We had 7 girls hit the ball and 6 getting on base - awesome!

Its all a team effort and the Mustangs show they have the stuff of champions when they cheer for their team, are supportive of their teamates - - and have fun while they play and enjoy the game....    GO MUSTANGS!

    Pink
    Panthers

    LOSS
We had a great battle with the Pink Panthers on the grass.  We came into this game with enthusiasm but saw our bats having a tough time with just 6 hits  -  and we unfortunately left 5 girls on base.  While we had 12 strikeouts - 9 of those came on good looking swings - I'd rather us be swinging at good pitches than watching `em go by.

The Mustangs saw firsthand how important every play is in a game - and how a game can change quickly on even one play.  We need to be thinking about what to do if the ball comes to, or near us as each batter comes to the plate - that's one reason why I always ask "where's the play".  The Mustangs are getting better at fielding and catching -  we were close on a couple of plays including a nice play at home that was just inches short of making the out.

We have a couple of tough games coming up so lets get ready to Show Our Stuff!    GO MUSTANGS!

    Heartbreakers

    LOSS
Game 4 against the Heartbreakers showed the Mustangs that anything can happen in a game.  Although the mighty Heartbreakers opened up the game with a lot of hits and scoring, the Mustangs rallied in the 4th inning, scoring 5 runs!  The 5 run rule went against us this time as we only had 2 outs and girls on base.  Then, the game was called with on the hard time stop at 2 hours when we had 2 girls on base poised to score and tie it up.

I was pleased to see the Mustangs keep up the "CAN DO" attitude even though we went 3 up/3 down in the first three innings!  GO MUSTANGS!

    Rebels

    WIN
Game 5 pitted the Mustangs against the Rebels - a tough team indeed.  For both teams the first three innings were an epic battle with only 10 batters from each team making it to the plate, but the Mustangs again opened it up in the 4th inning with Surya leading off the Mustangs charge with the first of 6 hits.

Great pitching by Emily, Calle and Kara with a combined 15 strikeouts kept the Rebel bats quiet.  I was pleased to see the Mustangs swinging, and not looking, and charging the ball in the field.  I always know that cheering our team will be first rate!!   We will continue to work on fielding and throwing during practices as we need to throw more outs during our games.  GO MUSTANGS!

    Bad Dogz

    TIE
We held the mighty bats of the Bad Dogz in check for another exciting game!  They came in with a league high number of runs and we held them to a 3-3 tie.  We kept them in check with good pitching (12 SO's), which left them with 6 girls on base.  We played well in the 1st inning keeping their run count down when they were getting hits...

Two notables from this game - Nattie had 2 BIG hits, and all the Mustangs were swinging at good pitches.  Once again, the cheering section was first rate, and the team really seems to be having a lot of fun together... Keep it up!

The Flying Squirrels are coming up and they also have a good team.  The Mustangs need to work on throwing our opponents out.  We had a some missed opportunities - so - throw fast, hard and accurately.  GO MUSTANGS!

    Flying Squirrels

    LOSS
We got to experience a good example of a high level of play from the Flying Squirrels.  Their pitching was fast and accurate and their fielding was right on target.  It can be a little intimidating to face fast pitchers, but remember Mustangs - just step into the pitch and swing a little earlier.  Keep your power up, and you'll see the ball fly off your bat. Just keep your confidence up, and know you can hit of of them!

For the game, we saw Peyton get her first start at catcher, and Linda scoring her first run!  Good job girls!!   Had we been able to make a couple of throw-outs when they were at bat,  the game might've taken a different turn.  I like the enthusiasm the girls bring to our games, and so far, sadly for me, I've not been able to pick up any of the girls' snacks for their lack of cheering...

Everyone's doing a good job listening and keeping their heads in the game.  We're almost 1/2 way thru the season now, so we we will continue to try to work on the things that make teams great:  having fun, learning the game, playing to get better, building confidence and cheering our team!!!   GO MUSTANGS!

    Lucky Stars

    LOSS
Mustangs! Our game against the Lucky Stars means we are 1/2 way thru the season already. Hard to imagine time has gone on so quickly!

The Lucky Stars were a well rounded team and tough team.  We played them well with our best infield play so far this season! We got more throw outs this game than any other. I was proud to see the Mustangs making good, smart plays. Sadly, however, our bats were silenced by the solid pitching of a very good VGSL pitcher.

Our games this season have all been very exciting - usually they come down to 1, 2 or 3 plays making the difference. We'll get on the upside of these plays, I just know it.... I am reminded by the kids every game that they are having fun. And that is a key ingredient to wanting to learn the game, get better and build self confidence. Keep it up!  GO MUSTANGS!

    Bulls

    LOSS
Team - True to form, we had another evenly matched game against the Bulls.  All of our games have been very exciting - coming down to just a couple of plays making the difference!  I'm looking forward to when the Mustangs will come out on top score-wise.  We've got all the right ingredients and just need to put them together in a game!

We've got team spirit, good batting, solid fielding, good hustle, and nice throwing.  If we mix that in along with smart plays like I know we can do, we'll show our next opponent - the Angels, what the Mustangs can do.GO MUSTANGS!

    Angels

    LOSS
Team - We were ready for a good game against the Angels, and we had one. Our swings are looking good, and we are swinging at good pitches - - but our bats have been quiet these last few weeks - but I know we'll come out of this slump.

Our fielding is enthusiastic, and we are closer to making more outs at 1st. We need to remember not to chase runners - that's where we're giving up bases and runs. Keep up the spirit and we will see our playing come together for a great Mustang game!

At this point we only have 6 games left before the playoffs. Lets make them good ones!!  GO MUSTANGS!!

    Gazelles

    WIN
Mustangs - two great games this weekend. I have said it all along - all of our good qualities would come out - and they did for us these games.

Against the Gazelle's, we saw a team that had big bats. Their first-up saw 7 batters, but the Mustangs held them to two runs and left them with bases loaded. Most importantly, we had 2 of our 6 THROW-OUTS at 1st base!! The Mustangs battled back with 6 hits - with Peyton leading the charge with a big triple to get the rally going.

Nattie's RBI's helped big in that 5 run inning, and she got the game ball!  All of our players got on base with 6 of 7 scoring a run.... what a game!!!   GO MUSTANGS!

    Pink Panthers

    WIN
Our 2nd game of the weekend came against the Pink Panthers - a team with great potential - and we didn't know what to expect from a team that had held opponents run counts down. What happened was that Mustang power came to the plate in the 1st inning with 2 runs on 4 hits!  Inning #2 saw another 6 hits and the 5 run limit. We pitched 12 strike-outs and had 3 throw-outs!

Both Emily and Maddie batted 1.000, with Emily crossing home plate twice. Mustang swings were looking good and there was fast base running. We didn't chase their runners and we played like the good team we are.  The season is starting to wind down, and we have 4 good teams coming up.  Keep the cheering and the playing strong - GO MUSTANGS!

    InTensity

    LOSS
Mustangs - We saw InTensity for the 2nd time this season and they once again gave us a good game.  We were pitching well (14 strikeouts), but they had a few hits which turned into runs when we chased their runners - their 6 hits turned into 3 runs.  We saw good InTensity pitching quiet our bats again - with just 4 hits.

We had 4 infield outs, and I liked much of what I saw and heard with our team spirit and support of other players.  That's a key ingredient to having fun playing the game and then wanting to get better at it.    We have 3 tough games ahead of us, so we need to keep our spirits up, our bats ready and our gloves dirty...Lets show the Gecko's our best!!!  GO MUSTANGS!

    Gecko's

    WIN
Team - what a nail-biter!!  We knew the Gecko's would be tough, and they were.  But Mustang bats came thru in a big way with Heather, Linda, Kara and Calle all batting 1.000!  We had big hits with 1 homerun, 2 triples and 2 doubles!.  We had good fielding as well.  A couple of balls got away from us, but we are getting pretty good at making good throws and catches - - and especially - - not chasing runners.  We also saw how quickly a game can start to get away from us on just one or two plays, so it's important to not loose focus when we're out there.  We saw the game clock on our side as we reverted to the last full inning played at the hard time-stop.  Keep up the good work, the good cheering and the fun!!!

The Heartbreakers and Rebels are coming up so get some rest, and get ready to enjoy 2 very good teams to help us prepare for the Tournament.  GO MUSTANGS!

    Heartbreakers

    LOSS
Mustangs - Our regular season ended with a great team party - and a good thing because the rain today against the Rebels put a damper on what was sure to be a good game.  Speaking of good games, we tried hard against a very talented Heartbreakers team.  We knew they would be tough, and they were.  They are very good at capitalizing on infield mistakes to pull in a 5 run inning.  We did see some big bats and aggressive base-running on our part with Calle's two triples, and Kara's big hit knocking in a run.  Importantly, I saw the Mustangs trying hard to make plays.  That always puts a smile on the coach.

I also want to say I enjoyed being able to give a little bio on each of our team players after the game.  I certainly have enjoyed watching them get better this season - - and that improvement will continue onto our playoff games, I'm sure!  Keep up the good work, the good cheering and the fun!   GO MUSTANGS!

Mon, June 2 6:00 Meadow Lane Playoff Game #1 Gazelle's

    WIN
Mustangs - I have to say this game was a real thriller!!!  It started out on the wrong foot with me giving out the wrong time & field - so thanks to all the parents for adjusting so quickly and getting your girls there...but - that was quickly put behind us with our first at bat where we scored a run.  With the game tied up - we saw some great batting with Katie and Emily driving in runs with big hits.  Then a great hit by Kara to seal the game up - - and finally a HOME RUN by Linda - the smile she had crossing the plate was priceless!!  I saw Jace swinging her strongest game yet and she put the bat on the ball for a beauty of a hit down towards 3rd base.  Way to go Jace!

Our runs, though, were no easy feat, as the Gazelle's were putting on a strong showing in the field.  Fortunately, we were able to take advantage of a couple of missed plays which made all the difference for our girls making hits/runs.  Our fielding was great, with a beauty of a snag by Surya to snare a double play on 3rd base - and also a fantastic grab of a bounced ball in the outfield by Heather to keep the Gazelle from getting runners ahead.  On the pitching front - Emily has a strong showing at pitcher throwing what I thought was her best game of the season with 12 strikeouts.  Overall, the Mustangs made good plays - and that makes the difference in our games.   GO MUSTANGS!
